Laser Hair Removal: Long-Term Reduction, Not Permanent Removal
Let’s clear something up: "permanent hair removal" is a marketing term. The science calls it "long-term hair reduction"—and the distinction matters.
Systematic reviews show laser hair removal achieves 30–84% reduction depending on the laser type, body area, and your hair/skin combination. Alexandrite lasers show the best results. Most people need 6–8 sessions, and some maintenance treatments down the road.
Important caveats: Lasers target pigment, so they’re less effective on fine, light, red, or gray hair. If that’s you, electrolysis (the only FDA-approved "permanent" method) may be a better option.
Budget alternative: At-home IPL devices ($200–$500 one-time) show broadly similar results for skin types I–IV, though less dramatic than professional lasers.
